Resetting stats, deleting users and/or their data - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-08

I'm having issues with a couple things regarding stats and users.

I would like to reset all stats (including plays, continue watching, recommendations, etc.) for all users since there's been a lot of testing involved which wouldn't make any sense outside of that.

I don't really understand the documentation on this to be honest.  I don't want to reset the entire server--just the user stats.

I was hoping that deleting and recreating a user would do the trick, however, that will actually bring back the user's stats too.  Next I deleted that specific user, created a new one called "Test" and then renamed it to the old one.  Ironically after renaming it, the stats were back yet again.  I assume they're somehow linked to the name itself rather than the account which I find unusual.

Is there any solution for what I'm trying to achieve without having to go through a fresh install because I've done that more than enough in the last days and I'm actually happy with how everything is working now.

Any help is much appreciated!

You can try running the "optimize database" job to see if that cleans up the old user's data before recreating them.

You can also click the check mark for a movie or show (individual episodes or the while show) then uncheck it to reset watch status which will clear next up and continue watching.

Can't say which job exactly since I ran all of them but it did work. Thanks much. At least for a regular user, that is.

I also created another admin profile and I noticed that--even though a new user with a never-before used name--this profile will show ALL activity since server day one. Is that normal behavior? Is an admin supposed to see every user's activity? Again, this is a brand new profile we're talking about. Still, songs played from three days ago, literally everything, will show in Suggestions.

Thanks again.

No idea. I've never tried making an additional admin user.

RE: Resetting stats, deleting users and/or their data - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-08

Oh, no, I mean that's the case with the original (old) admin as well. It will show all activity coming from other users. Is that intended?

RE: Resetting stats, deleting users and/or their data - TheDreadPirate - 2025-01-08

No. Each user's activity is separate. Including the admins. Unless you are using the Trakt plugin and all users share the same trakt user.

RE: Resetting stats, deleting users and/or their data - JANONYMOUS - 2025-01-09

Trakt isn't involved. That must be a bug then. I can actually see favorites from users that don't even exist anymore. None of that makes sense, but I don't see what I could have done wrong. There has to be a way to get rid of stats and history and/or clear the cache.

By the way, most of it, if not all, originates from a session when I tested the Jellyfin app for iOS. I played a couple tracks and favorited some. That is now showing up in the admin's profile somehow.

Submit a bug report? Definitely weird and not something I've seen before.

Yep, probably. I'm currently gathering and investigating stuff, trying to narrow it down before submitting it.
