New install stuck at 0.0% Scanning Libraries and no playback - BourbonDoc - 2024-08-22
I changed out my hardware and when I migrated all the configurations over in Jellyfin it was stuck scanning libraries for 14 hours using about 65% of my i5-12600k all night. Figuring maybe it was an issue with chapter or trickplay scanning, I decided to delete and do a fresh install and make sure those are deselected. Initially I got all the cover art of my media libraries looking fine, but when I went to play I got playback errors. After a few minutes it started using 50% CPU again and is stuck at 0.0% scanning libraries and the library screen is just a spinning wheel. I have about 1TB of media, nothing enormous. I will put some log info below. Any help would be much obliged as the new hardware was meant to solve the issue of slow transcoding!

As far as I can tell on the configuration end I don't. So that seems odd. Screenshots attached. I'm using TrueNAS Scale. I am a relative neophyte to linux though so I could be missing something.

You added a library in Jellyfin and added "/" as the library path.

I see how that's possible within the program, but I couldn't find any evidence that it was setup that way. Bizarre. I reinstalled yet again and used a different port and it seems to be recognizing my library directories OK. However it's still not playing anything. Error screen and logs attached. I tried it both with and without hardware encoding (same settings as I had before on the same system that were working). It looks like maybe it's stuck transcoding in a way it wasn't having problems with before but it's not using any appreciable CPU (0% usage). Tried a system restart and nothing changed. Thanks for hangin in to help!

The transcoding appears to be working fine. It started transcoding and then stopped. Probably due to some issue with the client. Not sure what it could be, though. The transcode output is 1080P H264, stereo AAC, the subtitles were burned in, and it was put in a MP4 container. Super compatible.
Can you share the full jellyfin log, not ffmpeg log, via pastebin? Also what kind of clients do you have? Android TV, WebOS, etc.
Unrelated. I noticed that your Jellyfin config and cache folders are created and managed by TrueNAS. Do you know if those are persistent? As in Docker/TrueNAS won't delete them if you cleanup docker? We generally recommend that /config and /cache are mounted to a host path, like you have for your media. When done in this manner, Docker/TrueNAS do not manage it and won't delete them. And it's easier to backup and migrate.

So they exist out of the Kubernetes container and will not be deleted if you delete the container.

I'm trying it on my S24 Ultra and a Firefox on Mint 22, both having the same results.

For the unrelated points, i have no idea. TrueNAS runs Kubernetes. I think they're switching over to Docker in the October release. And you've now reached the end of my knowledge!

Yes. Did that and it's still freezing. Maybe getting a few more frames between freezes. This hardware was playing on everything no problem the day before yesterday. The only change was moving the media files to a new HDD and remapping. Now the repeated reinstalls of Jellyfin. Went from WD Red Pro 4TB mirror to Barracuda Pro 12TB stripe. Files were transferring at 250MB/s on it so it's hard to imagine it's a speed issue with the HDD. The CPU is also only showing 4-10% utilization during playback attempts, so we're not maxing out there either.
