The Post Your Homelab thread - joshuaboniface - 2023-06-14

What forum about self-hosting and homelabs would be complete without a showoff/labporn thread?

So, show off your homelab here!

For myself, I recently made some videos about mine, and haven't changed a whole lot:

Hello,

Thank you for finally having jellyfin's own forum. I would have adviced for discourse instead of bb, but anyways we have a forum now, YEAYY.

I run Jellyfin on ARM device over docker and it have be working very smoothly for my use.
In the picture it was Odroid HC4 but I migrated to Beelink GS-KingX recently.

Keep up the good work jellyfin team.

Regards,

To offset Joshua's home-datacentre, here's my server. It's a HP 260 G1 my dad had lying around, he used it for Kodi. It has a blazingly fast Intel Celeron @ 1.4GHz, 4GB RAM, and some cheap M.2 2230 SSD (upgraded from like 32GB EMMC iirc). The hard drive is a Seagate Expansion 16TB, with ZFS. It only really runs Jellyfin, and it does the job surprisingly well. I'm working on upgrading to a Raspberry Pi though, since it struggles to keep up on audio transcoding of insanely high quality FLACs.

Edit: The CPU fan died about a month ago, it still runs fine without one.

Since I have downsized my homelab ower the last couple of month from a full 19 inch to 18U 10 inch, my equipment has shrunk in size.

So I went from a full setup with two Dell poweredge R210II and one dell Poweredge R520.

I decided to downsize to two Dell wyse 5070 tiny and one HP microserver gen8.

The microserver is just perfect for jellyfin as long as it is not streaming and downsampling from 4k to 1080, then it serves me just right.

My setup is slightly less organized: Jellyfin runs as docker on my NAS:

This is very impressive!! I have never seen a home/DIY setup like this before. I am guessing you are the programmer and hosting provider of Jellyfin? Sorry if I should know this, just stumbled across Jellyfin today! Looking for something better than Plex and I feel confident I have found it! Smiling-face

I will post my setup soon.

A bit of a "work in progress" for me. Eventually, various Ubiquity components will take over, but the star is definitely on the bottom! Jellyfin and many other containers running on Ubuntu with a i3-12100 and 32GB. Harddrive space is modest, but room for a lot more since I just started. I bought the wrong kind of rack so eventually that'll need replaced.

I have a few Pis running around for redundant PiHole, homebrew related stuff, retropie, etc.

Thanks! I am mostly a sysadmin/devops rather than a developer, but I do program a lot ;-) Jellyfin's infra (e.g. this forum) though is hosted on GitHub and Digital Ocean, not out of this lab. Gotta keep it separate, and my internet connection is nowhere near good enough to host something of this scale out of it! I'm project leader, but I'm more of a project manager than a real developer; there are many others on the team who do the actual coding.

It's not the prettiest but it's mine. Starting from the top:
- Synology DS220j (Original NAS for media)
- HDHomerun
- RPi 4 running Homeassistant
- Drobo NAS (Hosting for a roommate. Not in use)
- Unifi 24 Port POE
- HP DL360 G9 (ESXi 7 host running pretty much everything)
- TrueNAS (Primary NAS hosting all new media and backups from ESXi)
- TrippLite UPS I got free from work lol

Jellyfin is running on a spare desktop with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600, 32 GB, and a 1660 Super for transcoding support. At some point I want to get another Rosewell case and rack mount that too

Turris Omnia router on top (which I used to have Jellyfin on).

Lenovo M75n with usb drives on bottom. Passively cooled Athlon CPU & Radeon graphics.
