RE: remote access issues - glaney - 2025-03-31 nope, pinging the tailscale when remote doesn't work either! i'm not entirely sure about if my ISP uses CGNAT but i ran a traceroute to my other device and it hopped a few times, so i'm guessing it probably does use CGNAT. but in that case, i still shouldn't be having difficulties connecting to my server through the tailscale ip address right? i also shut down the server and jumped to chrome to try it out. still no luck! would it be of use if i were to just delete the server and re-install? EDIT: i think i may have accidentally marked this as solved when trying to save changes RE: remote access issues - TheDreadPirate - 2025-03-31 Reinstalling won't fix the issue if the problem is external to the server. If you can't even ping through tailscale, that pretty firmly points towards some network issue. What OS is the jellyfin server running? I'm not at home to look at the log you sent since the link was only good for one view. RE: remote access issues - glaney - 2025-03-31 the server is running on a windows 11 home! but in the logs, it's recorded as "Microsoft Windows 10.0.26100". i could re-send the logs if you'd require! RE: remote access issues - TheDreadPirate - 2025-03-31 I just mixed up whether you were on Windows of Linux. Do set your network to private. A lot of rules are applied differently when the interface is public. And Windows updates can change how things behave. Or updates can straight up break Windows firewall (I know this one first hand). RE: remote access issues - glaney - 2025-03-31 yeap, my network has been set to private but it still isn't really functioning. but i noticed that the tailscale status in my control panel labels it as "no internet access" but its description says "tailscale tunnel". is this the issue that i would have to rectify? RE: remote access issues - TheDreadPirate - 2025-03-31 Probably. I've never used tailscale, so I am not familiar with the ins and outs of the app. RE: remote access issues - glaney - 2025-04-01 @TheDreadPirate thank you for your help over the last few days! ![]() RE: remote access issues - TheDreadPirate - 2025-04-01 For anyone else with this issue, can you provide a break down of what you had to do? RE: remote access issues - glaney - 2025-04-01 sure! my ISP uses CGNAT so i couldn't utilise the "ip address:8096" method of sharing so i had to hop onto tailscale. as i didn't want to have to install tailscale on my other devices, i had to enable tailscale's funnel function to reach the server using the DNS provided. it's possible to rename everything so it's up to the individual. i renamed mine and set up the funnel by running it through command prompt (i'm on windows) and i also had to change my jellyfin port as the tailscale funnel only listens on 3 ports. there are a few configurations to set up the funnel like running it in the background or foreground - i've linked the support guide i found to be helpful below. but now i am able to remotely reach my server by typing "my device name.my tailnet" https://tailscale.com/kb/1223/funnel |
