RE: HDR Problem - skribe - 2023-09-29 To be clear: this is neither the place to request features (features.jellyfin.org), nor the place to report issues (the repositories on github). This is a troubleshooting forum for requesting help with installations that are having problems. But this isn't a problem. There isn't anything to help you with. You just want something to work in a way that it does not. This is predominately a feature request, and should be addressed as such in the appropriate forum. This being said, you have no hardware to accelerate. It's not magically working on plex either. Hardware acceleration requires a GPU which, by your own account, you do not have. That is true of plex as well. It might be the case that plex can do tonemapping without acceleration. I don't know. They might even do it in the client. I don't really use it. But jellyfin's implementation would not run sufficiently without hardware acceleration and is, thus, not presently supported. You are welcome to request the feature and see if you can find a developer who is interested in hacking at it, though. RE: HDR Problem - ototos - 2023-09-29 ok thanks RE: HDR Problem - ototos - 2023-11-08 Hello everyone, I'm back on this topic, because I still haven't solved it.. But I found that Emby, "the big brother", solved this problem by creating by forcing the coding via software. And it solves the tone mapping problem, it does the same plex. Maybe it could be implemented in Jellyfin too? However, it is strange that the Chromecast 4K does not fully support SDR and that it requires more work by the server, I believe that there is some small incompatibility between Jellyfin and Chromecast 4K RE: HDR Problem - ototos - 2023-11-09 that anger! I like jellyfin, but I will be forced to abandon it because no vps in my possession can make the most of my 10TB of content. Over 320 unwatchable hdr films and Over 40 hdr tv series not visible due to this damned transcoding. Considering that they are all files already compressed and optimized for remote streaming, what the heck is even transcoding for color tones for? I may be ignorant but I don't understand... Jellyfin in this case should only work as a player and catalogue, everything else is optional for those like me who see only Direct. :-( :-( RE: HDR Problem - toytown - 2023-11-09 According to your screenshots, you have a 8.1mbps video but the client has selected (or the server has a limit) a 4mbps version of it, so of course it has to transcode and cannot be direct played. The fact that the HDR isn't being tonemapped is probably due to the options not being enabled in the server playback menu, or the server hardware doesn't have the capability. Typically these servers do not have GPUs. Mine was just a screenshot taken at the moment on web player, the reproduced file is in hevc, therefore not playable by browser (at least mine doesn't support it), so I did a quick conversion to show. Usually I see on firestick, smart tv or google chromecast, they all support 4k hdr. The vision on those devices is direct, there is no transcoding, but you still can't see it correctly. RE: HDR Problem - ototos - 2023-11-24 Will this functionality ever be achieved? CPU Tone Mapping Thanks!!! :-( RE: HDR Problem - jim hill - 2024-02-04 hey guys, first of all, congratulations for putting all of your work in this project. now, im suffering similar issues with washed out colors in hdr playback....im using jf server on my pc (amd cpu/nvidia gpu) and client is installed on my lg tv. here are dashboard settings: what am i missing to set properly in terms of enjoying full hdr potential? thanks! RE: HDR Problem - TheDreadPirate - 2024-02-04 You have to enable tone mapping. Also, tone mapping is converting HDR to SDR so you are, unfortunately, not taking advantage of your HDR TV. But it would, at least, deal with the washed out colors. RE: HDR Problem - jim hill - 2024-02-04 thanks for the tip, Pirate. unfortunately as much as my lg C1 is overall great tv when pq is concerned, its riddled with some bad decisions by lg....lack of dts support, pgs subs, dv support if files are in mkv container....oh well i swapped plex for jellyfin immediately after its appearance in webos app store, but looks like i will need to consider some decent media player in the future for full experience (sdr files on the other hand, mostly 1080p, look terrific when transferred through jellyfin!) |
