Of course there are a lot of ways to organize your files and folders. But it is impossible to code to correctly identify with every way of doing things.

IMO, for content where online metadata exists, there is no point in "organizing" your folders if you are exclusively using an platform like Jellyfin to watch your content. I was also stuck in this mindset initially, but realized there was no point if Jellyfin is my sole point of contact for these files. Might as well make my life easier.

For what you are suggesting, you can create multiple separate libraries or collections to get a similar division of content.

I think you all are debating over nothing -

If you set up your JF like the OP said you still have separate shows & movie libraries. You aren't actually mixing your media.

The only suggestion I would have is to turn off all metadata sources in the Mixed library just to avoid potential conflicts when adding new media.

Edit - in fact I think I'm going to do this with my anime tonight... i hate having movies/ova's seperate from their corresponding series ( i always forget about them) Thanks OP!

There are also books, soundtracks and other media. same with comic books or anime based off of manga.

I never thought about it that way before, but now that I've seen your post I think it would be pretty cool to be able to have a "Star Wars" library which can organize and display all the media types.

Love this example. I was initially going to say Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, El Camino.
There's also plenty of similar content in Au under the "Underbelly" umbrella. Seasons, 2 part mini/movie series, feature movies.
Even an actor folder, i.e. Paul Hogan. He initially had his own comedy TV series, + other movies before & after Crocodile Dundee. Why have it scattered.

My sons just turned 22, wasn't interested when this stuff was on (incl GOT). His about to motorhome around Australia, setting up a nas for him.
I could tell him before he leaves to make sure he watches the others, that their in the other section, but doubt he'll remember when the time comes.
But if there all in the same folder....

So how would I set this up? Movie & Shows library option, pointing towards;
>Breaking Bad Series
>>Breaking Bad
>>>S1
>>>S5
>>Better Call Saul
>>>S1
>>>S6
>>El Camino

Ok to be totally frank with everyone: I am a big supporter of getting rid of the mix lib type. In essence, nobody from the current dev team _wants_ to touch it, there are lots of issues with it for many people and it creates both a noticable impact in support requests and lots of confusion in addition to frustration when users come here or the chat and ask for help and nobody will help them.

Not long ago after some particular troublesome help requests i formalized the idea of getting rid of mixed libs.

Sort the Series into
Series/Breaking Bad/Season 01
Series/Breaking Bad/Season 02
Series/Breaking Bad/Season 0X
Series/Better call Saul/Season 01
Series/Better call Saul/Season 0X

And movies into

Movies/El Camino

To aggregate them in the UI, collections are the way to go. How its stored and how its displayed are two different things and have two very different requirements.

While I totally agree & if nobody wants to touch it - ditch it! but it's not like "Collections" doesn't have it's own set of issues.

i think everyone forgot this is someone's Guide thread and the discussion for removal was moved to github https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-meta/discussions/46

this thread is showing how to use something not debating it's use

For Anime, you could just use Shoko and set up the library as a Show library and it'll show all the shows and movies in the library

For everything else, I wouldn't bother with metadata plugins, just generate the nfos (with filebot or tmm) and let JF read em.

Don't discuss what the OP is about? Right... You remind me of those mums who do voluntary traffic policing outside schools, who "forgot" they weren't asked to do it.
"Someone" has a name. Hey @Ruben, you got a problem with it?
What about you Mods? Thier recognisable by the "Community Moderator" under their names, which you don't have. Like Venson's & other posts above yours, also contributing to the conversation, oh, sorry, "debate".
How about we leave forum policing to them.

Yesterday I discovered "Tiny Media Manager", and a way to automate it. Awwwesome!

Well we try to keep a relaxed approach here. We will only swing the Fed hammer if its really bad, also we are currently full time employed with spam patrol so that is not really heigh on the prio list. Lets keep it civil on both ends. I see the discussion here more in the light of "should we even tell users how to do mixed libs" level and yes that can be done here, however feel free to discuss this as well. But if you want to ensure your voices are heard by the people who will actually _do_ stuff about it, i recommend discussing it in my post on the metadata repro in github.

Also Nobody here has absolut authority over that, we all are only volunteers and it would not be the first time a mod makes a mistake and after complains reverts his decision.
