RE: subtitles no transcoding - sandyshells - 2024-06-10

i think i might have to redo the whole thing cause changing the file name is not doing it. I'm assuming that i need to redownload the whole subtitle file into the movie with the new file name.

If you changed the file name you will need to tell Jellyfin to scan for updates.

You could also try a tool like MKVToolNix to remove the ASS subs from the MKV files. Android TV will probably then play the SRT subs fine (after properly renaming them of course).

Though I wonder why your Android TV client isn't burning the ASS subs into the video. You say it doesn't transcode afterall.

Or are you saying you want subs that don't require Android TV to request a transcode?

RE: subtitles no transcoding - sandyshells - 2024-06-10

im going to type it exactly how i have it.

folder name Avengers infinity War

inside the folder i have the following two files:

Avengers Infinity War.mkv

Avengers Infinity War.spa.srt

exact amount of space in between each word

That should work. Double check file permissions. In the dashboard, click on scan all libraries. Jellyfin won't pick up the file name change until it scans again.

RE: subtitles no transcoding - sandyshells - 2024-06-10

well switch to an mp4 container and subtitles somehow where switch into MOV_Text, what is important is that works now. Just wondering @TheDreadPirate how compatible are MOV_Text on different devices or browsers?

RE: subtitles no transcoding - TheDreadPirate - 2024-06-10

No idea. It isn't on our compatibility matrix and none of my content uses it.
