Doesn't look like Kodi is an OS itself. I was looking for a standalone OS meant to be a media device so i didnt need to run a program "on top of" an OS. Seems like a waste.

AFAIK, this is not a thing. LibreELEC is the closest you'll get, but it still relies on, usually, Kodi to be the media playback application. An OS is an OS. An OS cannot play videos. It provides the means for an application to play videos.
