RE: The Introductions thread - Stimpy - 2025-06-14

Hi! I'm Stimpy. I run Jellyfin on a NUC 14 Pro server, with 10Gb internal networking, and a 5Gb external connection. I've used it for music for years, in the past I just used VLC to play movie files. Now I'm slowly flattening my dvd/bluray/4k collection, and putting it in Jellyfin.
Everything has worked well for me. I like how all the metadata is just for my collection, and it's speedy and reliable to me. When I have an issue, it's usually adressed by adjusting settings.

I run JF on a Windows 11 machine. I installed it by running the exe, no docker or any other things. 🤷
All my media is on a 4Tb SSD and I do no remote access. So... about as basic as you can get.

I run the same setup as you, and have no problems accessing my videos while in my home.  But, if I'm away from home, obviously I can't access my videos on anything.  Is there a solution for this, as I would like to be at my son's house and access my videos (perhaps cast them to his TV).  Thank you.

Hi, I'm Nick, Jellyfin user for all of a week. I came to Jellyfin because of Plex putting its awful streamed content front and centre and moving away from its original purpose as a media server.

I'm running Jellyfin on a Windows 11 server with Caddy reverse proxy for remote access.

Hey, fellow "Fin-ers".  My name is Craig and I've been a Jellyfin user for less than a week but I am in love with it.  A HUGE thanks to the team for building a platform that has brought fun back to our home's CD collection.

I am ripping to flac and storing them on a Windows 11 machine running JF portable.  I fully networked our home years ago so much of the tech foundation was already in place.  Our main enjoyment of our new library is through a Cat5 connected Roku Ultra running the JF app, and that feeds to a Marantz pre/processor, an Outlaw Audio amp, a pair of fully restored KEF Reference Series speakers, and HT.

Last night though we sat around the firepit and streamed from a Pixel running the JF app and listened on a portable bluetooth speaker.  Though not the audiophile experience of our family room system it was absolutely a blast.  We handed the the Pixel around and everyone had their turn playing DJ.

That's what it's supposed to be about, right?  Enjoying our music.

I looked around a lot and even ran a trial of an alternative paid solution but Jellyfin was the only one that checked all the boxes :-)

Can leverage home audiophile setup?  Done.  Family can play on laptops via a user friendly app that is not a setup/support headache for me?  Done.  Can play on portable devices?  Done.  Can listen on the back patio?  Done.  Great metadata-read and "What's Playing Now" display on the flat screen?  Done.  Didn't cause me any setup headaches?  DONE.

I'm sitting here on a Sunday morning listening to Carole King/Tapestry and continuing the ripping project :-)  Haven't listened to that album in years.

Craig

Hello everyone.
My name is Antonio and I'm from Spain.
I've been an Emby user for the past few years, but this weekend I had enough time to install a Jellyfin Docker instance, install the Jellyfin client for Tizen OS, and get everything ready for the rest of my family.
I'm happy to have made the switch to a 100% open source project.
