How to filter intersection of tags/collection - threegreen - 2025-01-09

Is there currently a way to filter in Jellyfin to obtain the intersection of certain tags or collections (or other criteria)? For example, let's say I have tags/collections for long vs. short videos, as well as animated vs. non-animated ones, both giving me a different partition of my database. I would like to be able to filter any combination of these tags/collections, for example short animated videos. It seems that the filter dropdown gives me the union of sets when I select multiple tags. For example, when I check the boxes for both "short" and "animated" tags, I would get a list of videos that have either tag but not necessarily both.

Well, yes. Not necessarily how you'd want, however. If you filter by multiple tags that creates an aggregated list of all media that match ANY of the tag criteria you've selected. But you can use AND logic with multiple criteria from different categories: any combination of Filters, Status, Features, Genres, Parental Ratings, Tags, and Years. Note that this means ONE criterion from a category and ONE criterion from another category.

So I could do...

Filters: Unplayed
Genres: Science Fiction
Tags: dual-audio (custom tag)

You should be able to edit things like genre and tags in the metadata manager, but it would likely be tedious if your library is large.
