Client for Nebula Capsule - Steve Klett - 2025-01-11

Hi,

I have an original Nebula Capsule, it's old but it works and my family loves it (kids are watching old Batman TV series as I type this). I had originally planned to run a Plex server on my Synology and use Plex on the Nebula, but I could never make that work and I also no longer want to use Plex. I've read plenty that JellyFin is the superior option and that is now what I intend to use. But.... there is no client available for the Nebula (that I know of). I'm open to using some sort of dongle-type client device connected to the HDMI port, but I don't know if such a thing exists. I don't want to use our phones to solve this problem, I'd like a dedicated device that we can store with the Nebula. Does anyone know of something I could purchase that would allow me to connect to a JellyFin server and stream to an HDMI port?

I'm new to all this so please excuse me if I've used the wrong terms for anything.

Since it runs Android I don't see why you couldn't get a Plex client installed on it. Unless it doesn't use the play store.

But since it runs Android it should be able to install our client.

Having said that, the specs are underwhelming. You'd definitely have a much better experience connecting a newer, more capable, Android TV device to the Nebula.

I was able to install the plex client but it crashes during launch and I'm well into the out of warranty, no support available period of this thing.

Yes! This is what I want to do and what I was trying to explain in my original post. I'm wondering if there is a little device (I don't know what to call it? screen cast? streaming client?) that I connect to my Wi-Fi and it's output plugs into my Nebula. I then can connect to JellyFin from this little device and choose what I want to watch and it outputs via HDMI to the nebula. Basically taking the "smarts" out of the Nebula and using it like a plain ol' projector.

It has an HDMI port. A Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Stream, a Roku Express/Ultra, Amazon Firesticks. Any smart device will work with it. And Jellyfin has an app for each.
