Deleted a user - alleycat - 2025-01-13

I'm an attempt to fix a connection problem this morning I accidentally deleted a user instead of deleting the device. Can I restore the user or all users, if I have to and how from a backup?

If you just recreate the user with the same name it will probably retain all of its watch status.

But there is no "undo" or "restore" function.

I was at the "remote" user client (family member) when this happen. I did recreate the same user name and didn't see any of his continue watching items come back up that's why I was thinking I needed/could restore the user. I'm going to be back over there this afternoon and double check the watch status, that would be great if it came back.

Anyway, thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

Just my luck, lol. The new user name (same name & pwd) I recreated didn't retain any watch history (status). The user is disappointed, but my mistake.

Backups are your friend. Make a task that does something like making a copy of the config folder on a weekly basis.

You'll be able to restore/recover from your errors in the future by having proper backups.

I do backups. I was wanting to know if I could restore users from a backup, sorry everyone if I wasn't clear.
I back these up weekly:

/etc/jellyfin
/var/lib/jellyfin
/var/cache/jellyfin

Should I just restore all of these?

Yes. Those three directories would fully restore Jellyfin to a previous state.

Thanks guys! Restoring my three backup directories worked. Good thing the backup was from yesterday.
