How to speed up the trickplay image generation - cthunsfrd - 2025-01-16 Recently I have successfully migrated my jellyfin server from centos to ubuntu and upgraded from 10.8.10 to 10.10.3. The upgrade was very smoothly but after that I found that the plugin jellyscrub is obsolete and I followed the instruction to enalbe the native trickplay and uninstalled the plugin. During the uninstallation, one step of the the instruction was to convert original bif trickplay files to the new format but it seemed not to work at all. After the uninstallation I lost all the thickplay. My media library is about 4T , and it contains some 4k h265 videos I added these two days as new jellyfin supports 4k hevc. I tried to regenerate it and after 3 days I realized it would be a tough mission for my poor 4-core microserver without gpu. The progress was 15% which means it may take nearly a month. So I installed esxi on my desktop computer which had a 6-core cpu and 1050 gpu and migrate the ubuntu vm to that computer and enabled gpu passthrough. Gpu do made it much faster but another 2 days later it still not finished. And I find that only less than 10% of the gpu power was used to decode the media. So is there any fater way to generate the trickplay? RE: How to speed up the trickplay image generation - TheDreadPirate - 2025-01-16 Nvidia GPUs are not yet fully supported for trickplay acceleration. They are used for decoding only. One way you can speed it up is to check the box to only generate trick plays on key frames. This significantly speeds up trickplay creation. |
