Buffering and hitching - Conor Storey - 2025-01-27 Hi there, I've been using jellyfin for a while now and I've been trying to fix this issue for a while now. I have a 4k remux which is about 68 mbps bitrate that plays fine on my main tv but not in my other room on my windows pc. The video hitches on jellyfin and smb but my download speed exceeds the bitrate and it exceeds the bitrate by far of 1080p remux that won't play smoothly either. They're both direct playing on jellyfin any help would be appreciated. Attached is my speed test results on my pc. Thanks RE: Buffering and hitching - TheDreadPirate - 2025-01-27 What are the specs of the Windows PC? CPU - Ryzen 3100 GPU - RTX 3070 Mem - 16gb 3600mhz RE: Buffering and hitching - TheDreadPirate - 2025-01-28 On the Windows PC open Jellyfin in a browser, find a large movie, and click on the "..." context menu and download the file. How fast is it transferring? RE: Buffering and hitching - Conor Storey - 2025-01-28 About 3.2 MB/s RE: Buffering and hitching - TheDreadPirate - 2025-01-28 Kind of slow, ~26Mbps. That is around the average bit rate of a 1080P bluray remux and doesn't account for higher bit rates for dynamic scenes. I'm assuming this PC is connecting with WiFi. What is the signal strength like where the PC is located? Are you on the 2.4Ghz band or 5Ghz band? 5Ghz would be much much faster if the signal reaches that far. Thanks for the help so far, I did a speed test between the server and pc using iperf and I got the results in the attachment. I'm not really sure what the issue is now because those speeds exceed the bitrate I'm trying to play. RE: Buffering and hitching - TheDreadPirate - 2025-01-29 Are you using a reverse proxy? RE: Buffering and hitching - Conor Storey - 2025-01-29 Nah, I'm directly connected, I had thought it was my mergerfs setup but I just ran one of my media folders on a n individual drive and that didn't work either. Thanks RE: Buffering and hitching - TheDreadPirate - 2025-01-29 Can you describe your setup in full? OS, storage setup, network setup, hardware specs, etc. Your mention of mergefs means that the iperf results probably does not accurately represent a real world scenario. |
