Import file organization from MusicBee? - 1312 - 2025-01-30 Hello! TL;DR: is it possible to sync my music organization in MusicBee over to Jellyfin? I use MusicBee to organize and play music on my computer, and I really like it. I have organized my music library within MusicBee itself, to get rid of little discrepancies here and there - for example, sometimes for whatever reason, the same album will show up twice with some songs in one album and some in another, so I edit all the songs to be part of the same album. My actual music folder on my computer is a bit of a chaotic mess, but I consider that fine since MusicBee is neat and tidy. But here's the problem... now that I'm using Jellyfin to stream music to my phone (I use Fintunes to download music to listen to when I'm offline), my library is a chaotic mess again. Is it possible to fix this and sync my library as it exists in MusicBee over to Jellyfin? Or would I have to organize my music folder itself to fix this? I don't seem to be able to change this kind of thing in Jellyfin itself. Hope that makes sense. Thanks folksĀ Quick edit: I realized that a much simpler example of the problem is genre. The metadata for songs by Iron Maiden puts it under "Rock" for its genre, but I would rather it be listed as "Heavy Metal". RE: Import file organization from MusicBee? - TheDreadPirate - 2025-01-30 Negatory. You cannot import a library structure into Jellyfin. Jellyfin uses a combination of the folder structure, file names, and metadata tags to organize your music in the UI. It is kind of black magic and inconsistent, and I still have to manually organize music a small portion of the time even when adhering to the documentation. For tagging, I use Musicbrainz Picard to auto-magically tag everything. Which has massively improved the hit rate of Jellyfin automatically getting things right. Pro-tip, make sure you configure Picard to prioritize metadata for your language (I'm assuming English). Otherwise foreign musicians will get foreign language metadata. Primarily an issue with Japanese/Korean/Chinese artists, etc. |
