Transcoding limited by bit rate when it shouldn’t be - Jbrown - 2025-02-01

So maybe I’m doing this wrong or its a possible bug 🐛.
Noticed today while my kids was watching a movie that it was being transcoded due to “bit rate exceeding the limit” while I do have a global limit of 55Mbps set the video should have been around 48-50.

-Server is docker 10.10.5

-Client was a iPad and iPhone (tried both) using Jellyfin app (latest version on App Store)

-Intel QVS is set up and working no issues

-I even connected via VPN so I was “local” and bypassing the stream limit setting.

*edit* I just tried again since we’re home and on Wi-Fi, it direct streams now so I’m assuming it’s carrier imposed streaming limits causing it.

RE: Transcoding limited by bit rate when it shouldn’t be - gnattu - 2025-02-02

The client will do speed test and apply the bitrate limit automatically when not on LAN. You can override that limit by setting a very high bitrate in the user settings, and your bitrate limit is very likely due to the speedtest only got that high bitrate.
