jellyfin has write access to the media folder and try again - bacman - 2025-02-10

I have searched the internet and also this forum and can't see the resolution to my problem so i'm posting this to ask for help please.

I use Windows 10, have Jellyfin installed and am very happy with it however I cannot delete a file/folder in by Jellyfin libraries as I get "jellyfin has write access to the media folder and try again".

My media is all on an external SSD, and it appears that all users have can read/write to the drive so i'm rather stumped as to how to allow Jellyfin to remove a film from the listing and also from the hard disk. If I remove the film and restart Jellyfin (even from a re-boot of Windows) then it is not on the SSD but still shows in Jellyfin - a bit odd as Jellyfin is happy to add videos but doesn't want to remove them.

I have checked the SSD's folders (properties>security) and they all show users, etc as having read/write ability so i'm stuck as to how to fix this issue. I would really appreciate help on how to fix this issue. Please detail how I can remedy this matter as it is driving me nuts.

Also, I have 66 folders for TV shows which show fine however I actually have 67, one doesn't show at all, for no reason as the media files are all perfectly fine. Is there a limit on how much a library can hold in Jellyfin?

Can you share your jellyfin logs via privatebin.net?

Not a fan of sharing logs, aren't you please able to advise me solution based on my post above?

Without logs, there's not much we can do.

To guess, check permissions of the files on Windows 10 and the Jellyfin user in the admin dashboard.

If you're not comfortable openly posting a link to logs, you can send a PM with a link. Privatebin, by default, deletes the paste after 1 days and are encrypted (the key is part of the link you would send me/efficient).

I found the problem, something stupid as it transpired - I had installed a second SSD and Windows assigned the drive from D: to E: and made the new drive D: ; however when I told Jellyfin to re-scan the directories it didn't show any error and just kept the old TV shows and information showing however of course the paths were wrong. Seems ok now, managed to delete a couple of things fine.

Any more issues i'll ask for help again, many thanks.
