DV Fallback on mkv? - Rainbow - 2025-02-11

Device: LG B1 webOS
Container: MKV

Can someone please let me know if I'm correct in my understanding of DV fallback.

DV5 no issue playing natively*.

DV7.6 will fallback on SDR natively? (And if i have a device capable of 7.6 will jellyfish properly display it?)

DV8.1 no issue playing natively.

1.Natively as in trough jellyfin without any processing. (still new so i don't understand encoding decoding transcoding whatever so not sure which one fits here).

And i assume there is no way to Convert DV7.6 to DV8.1/DV5 or just HDR10 on the fly as i am streaming a movie ?

LG TV does not play dolby in mkv. You need to remux them to mp4 if you want dolby vision to directly play.

DV7.6 is able to convert (loosing EL) to 8.1 but that is a more involved process

I  saw a GitHub comment you left a few month ago about on-the-fly remux in HLS. That must be why i am able to play DV 8.1 and 5 with Dolby on my LG(as it displays the Dolby popup and enters the Dolby pictures modes). In this case what happens if i play a 7.6 does it fall back to SDR ?

It should fallback to HDR10 but the picture could be look like SDR a bit because the base layer tends to have a low overall brightness for most of them.
