LG app Dolby Vision problem - Drake97 - 2025-02-17

Hello everyone,

Since about 2 months ago I have a 65” LG C4 and the first thing I did was to install the Jellyfin app.
I have always used a Chromecast with google TV 4K, but because it fails, I am only using the TV at the moment.
however there is a problem, it turns out that when I want to play Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos or Dolby Vision + Dolby Digital content, it always transcodes the audio to STEREO PCM.
I thought it was a problem with my TV, soundbar or HDMI cables, however I made tests I came to the conclusion that the jellyfin app for LG can not play with Dolby Vision + some lossy codec, my tests were as follows:

- Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos content = soundbar displays as STEREO PCM
- Dolby Vision + Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital Plus content = soundbar shows as STEREO PCM
- H264/H265 (let's call it "normal" video content) + Dolby Atmos = soundbar shows as Dolby Atmos
- H264/H265 (let's call it "normal" video content) + Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital Plus = soundbar displays Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital Plus

I came to this conclusion because when I play DV+Atmos content on netflix, disney and prime video, it plays it immediately, showing on the top of my TV “Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos through the sound bar”.
Additional to the information, is that when playing these contents from the chromecast, it did take the correct codecs displayed in the soundbar

I do not know if the information will not be very complete, so if you need anything else I could comment.

Greetings.

we can do very little, and you need to manually remux your videos to mp4 just like what netflix did.
