DVR - Recording Custom Times from Live TV - designingbeing - 2025-02-18

Is it possible or planned to set arbitrary recording schedules on the DVR?

There's a show I watch which is scheduled... unusually.

The part of the show I'm interested in recording:
  • Runs twice per week
  • Could start anywhere from 23:00 to 01:00
  • Finishes around the following 09:00
  • The EPG splits it into at least 2 separate entries, both with the same show name and episode number.

There's also a shorter version that I don't want to record that runs for an hour 5 days a week beginning any time from about 01:00 to 04:00.

So far I've only found series recording but afaik I have to record a bunch of stuff I don't want and set it to retain a week's worth of episodes so that the content I do want to watch doesn't get overwritten by the content I don't want to watch.

Are there any workarounds, or something I've missed that would let me manually record from 23:00 to 09:00 twice per week, and retain X amount of those manually scheduled recordings?

hi designingbeing
Which DVR are you using? Some models like TiVo, Channels DVR, or Plex allow for more customization.

At the moment I'm just using M3U Tuner and an XML program listing and the DVR settings in Jellyfin admin panel.

This is what the EPG schedule looks like:

And this is the settings I have for the program:

I'm not expecting the episodes the other channels shown to be scheduled so no problem there.

But Jellyfin only automatically scheduled recording of the first episode in each block shown at the bottom of the EPG screenshot on Saturday & Sunday, I had to manually schedule the other episodes for recording.

This doesn't seem like expected behaviour, can anyone confirm?

The way it is currently configured should record every instance of the show within that "series". If your EPG provider gives the series a different ID for each variation of the show it would only grab that variation you created the recording schedule for.

Hmm... that doesn't seem to be the behaviour I'm seeing 🤔

The first screenshot is the programme page.

It shows the upcoming episodes are all being detected properly for the selected ID, but only the 1st episode for the weekend is actually scheduled to record.

The programme is set to
  • Record = All episodes
  • Don't record episodes that are already in my library = Unchecked
  • Air time = Anytime
The channel setting is correct; all episodes in the screenshot are on the same channel.

I would expect all episodes detected under the ID with those settings to be recorded.

The 2nd screenshot is the Schedule page.

It also shows that there is only one scheduled recording for the weekend period.

The next scheduled recording after Saturday 01:27 is not until Monday 00:27.

It seems that the Don't record episodes that are already in my library setting is being ignored and quote-unquote repeats are never recorded, regardless of the setting: the shows that are not being scheduled to record share the same season and episode number, and the next scheduled recording has a different episode number.
