Same media different format - DeanoVIP - 2025-02-20
Apologies probably a really simple one, if you have the same media but one is 1080p and the other 4k. How do I organise these, do I place both media files in the same folder so I can choose which one to play depending on the device being used? Do I need to name them in a certain way, currently I do:
Folder - Title (date)
Files - Title - year - resolution.mkv
Does this confuse anything when subtitles come into play, lets say one is .mp4 with a separate .srt file and the other is MKV with them baked in?

The automatic merging of "versions" only applies to movies. So keep that in mind.
For this to work automatically, you need to name the folder and the files exactly the same prior to the version designator. This would include the year and any IDs you've included in the folder name. An example from my library.

└── It's A Wonderful Life (1946) [tmdbid-1585] - Colorized.mkvI've never had any media with different extensions and different subtitle types like you've described. I'm assuming if you put the "version" in the file name for the .srt file it would only be available to the mp4 version. And the embedded subtitles in the MKV would only be available when playing that version.

Thank you as always, works like a charm. I noticed in the Jellyfin interface that the mp4 file adds a subtitle dropdown, where as the MKV does not, so all works fantastically :-)
