Jellyfin Series not loading on ChromeTV - jellydark - 2023-09-22

Greetings

I am using Jellyfin on 2 pc's (one of them acts as server and viewer) 1 Phone and my Chromecast TV dongle 

For the most part everything works pretty much perfect, but there are 2 shows (mkv 460kbps / 439kbps) that don't load on the Chromecast but work perfectly well on my phone and my Pc's
They are in the same folder as most of my other series and are with around 200mb on the smaller side.

Is there anything i am missing? every other show and movie loads perfectly fine (most are in mkv)

We would need to know which Chromecast you have and the codec of the media in question ("Media Info" in the ... menu for the show).

Also upload your jellyfin and ffmpeg log, if there is one associated with this file, to pastebin and link it back here

okay ill get the logs on my tv tomorrow and try to figure out how to get that ffmpeg log
thanks for the possible ways to look into it, maybe i can see it in the logs what the issue might be, didn't even think of that

for the codecs, the 2 that don't work line up with 2 that do work:

From what i found on the internet 204 means its a transcode issue but not sure as how to fix that.
edit: i tried to view it with my other account (the one i use on my phone) but same issue, just to remove some odd setting from one user to another from the list of possible issues

So what I think is going on is that your TV is trying to direct play content it can't actually direct play. From the ffmpeg log this video looks like it is 12-bit HEVC. And your phone is asking for it to be transcoded.

"yuv420p12le" indicates 12-bit video. Which is not necessary for just about anything and has limited support. Your Chromecast SHOULD be asking for a transcode but isn't.

I don't see any open issues that sound like yours. You should submit an Android TV github issue.

In the mean time, you should use something like handbrake to re-encode your video to 8-bit HEVC for better device support. The original content DOES NOT need 12-bit color.

yeah sounded like something around that for me too but wasn't to sure how i tell my tv to ask.
ill just re encode those 3 series then. thanks

never really used github so not entirely sure what to really submit, i think ill just see if i can find an updated version or encode for now. if it's only me with that issue on some small subset of my library that's not really something imporant now that i know how to fix it
