New windows install, no local access - ljurgens - 2025-03-01

Searched the threads and did not find any that resolved this issue for me. What have I missed?

I have a new install (10.10.6) on a windows machine. Machine shares media libraries with Plex.

I can access the web interface on the local machine at address "localhost:8096" but not from any other device on my local network.
Plex clients can of course connect to this machine.

There are 2 entries in the windows defender firewall for private access both upd and tcp enabled.
No external access allowed.

https is not enabled

bind to local network address is blank (I tried entering 0.0.0.0 and restarting but that did not help)

IPv4 is enabled, IPv6 is not.

The 172.x.x.x network here is suspect in that it is not local to me. I was remoted into this machine via any connect when I ran the install and I assume it grabbed that network from the remote machine I was on? Can I remove that from the setup somehow? In an xml file somewhere possibly?

To clarify, you're running on a VPS somewhere else? Any connect is RDP or VPN, correct?

You'd need to tunnel to that machine on every device you wish to use (e.g., Tailscale, Wireguard), find out whether the VPS has a static IP or associated domain name and use that, or set up a reverse proxy on the VPS to handle traffic to it. All three are ways to connect to that machine or network. You cannot disable the use of another network and you wouldn't want to since if the machine is remote, you wouldn't be able to connect at all anymore.

RE: New windows install, no local access - ljurgens - 2025-03-01

No, I was just remoted into my home machine from work. No connection or intent there.
Everything is on my home 192.x network and I do not want/need any external access.

I just can't reach Jellyfin from any device (TV, laptop etc) from anywhere on my network other than the machine it is installed on.

RE: New windows install, no local access - bitmap - 2025-03-02

And you're using the IP address of the server to access, correct? Not "localhost"?

RE: New windows install, no local access - ljurgens - 2025-03-02

Correct

Is your networking interface set to private?

And what is the firewall status for Jellyfin?

click Start > type Resource Monitor > click on the Network tab > expand the Listening Ports table

Find jellyfin.exe on port 8096. What does it say in the Firewall Status column? Should be "Allow, unrestricted" (or was it not restricted?).
