Onn 4k can't play DV files - sisu - 2025-03-02

I have an Onn 4k that is hooked up to a 1080p Projector. I'm playing a 4k DV file and it only shows a blank screen while the sound is playing fine.

This device can play HDR/DV file, but if it's just DV file it's just a blank screen.

Things I noticed:
- The project is 1080p, onn 4k is a 4k and HDR (no DV). When I stream, it's Direct Play.

I tried:
- Turn on Jellyfin Server's tone mapping
- Disable Onn's device HDR capability to force Jellyfin transcode, but still direct play.

Is there anything else I missed?

If you set the audio to stereo on the Jellyfin Android TV client, it should trigger transcoding. Is the file you're trying to play a Hybrid DV/HDR10+ file?

EDIT: I figured it out. I disabled Android TV Jellyfin's Bitstream Dolby Digital stream and everything works as expected.

I force downmix to stereo got a little further. It shows video now, but the coloration is totally off (as if tonal mapping is not right). Not only that, it will only play a few seconds then crash the player (Jellyfin error encountered retry...).

Here's the file profile that I'm trying to stream, it is DV only, not hybrid. Hybrid file works.

DOVI configuration record: version: 1.0, profile: 5, level: 6, rpu flag: 1, el flag: 0, bl flag: 1, compatibility id: 0

I tried installing VLC/Kodi to enable external player but all of them crashed.
