Transcode Data and Cache - Jr Valino - 2025-03-19

hi good evening. i have learned today that my vm where jellyfin installed is now full for some reason. i have found that there's an additional 5gb allocated on jellyfin's config/data/transcode. when i navigate to jellyfin playback, the transcode location entered is config/cache/transcode which is empty when i navigate to it. my question is, is it safe to delete those transcode files from config/data/transcode? i already enabled delete segments but its still in there. thank you.

Yes. The transcode folder only receives temporary files.

Basically when transcoding, Jellyfin will store the multiple transcoded segments within the transcode folder.
When the client is done watching the stream and/or exits, Jellyfin is supposed to remove the transcoded segments from the transcode folder.

Mayabe something happened that prevented that from happening on your end.
They're safe to delete.

its not matter if there's transcoded file in both config/data/transcodes and config/cache/transcode since they both safe to delete? thank you for your response by the way

Yeah, you can delete them in both directories.

Something probably happened where the transcode directory switched for you.
