Stop clients from syncing playback settings - auser - 2025-03-21
Hi folks. I asked this many years ago probably in a jellyfin/emby reddit thread so hoping something might've changed since then. Anyone know of a way to stop Jellyfin clients from syncing playback settings eg Auto Play next episode automatically? Basically clients should be able to have different use cases where for example, some should autoplay episodes but some clients stop after one episode and don't want to have to go menu digging whenever I use a different client. Also if anyone asks, I have raised a feature request for this already.

Some settings are server side/global, some are per-user and sync between devices, some per client (which don't sync to the server/other devices).
AFAIK, you cannot prevent settings from syncing for settings that do sync.

Thanks for the quick response. It's a shame but fair enough since I believe its something inherited from Emby and I don't have the skills to sort it out myself. Can work around it I presume with different accounts.
Is it possible to sync played status between different accounts in Jellyfin, maybe via trakt? Would be nice to know there is a viable workaround if I do ever get forced to switch to Jellyfin by Plex's shenanigans as different clients should be able to have different use cases in my opinion with minimal messing around.

Trakt or Simkl maybe? I don't use either, but I recall there was a function to sync in either direction.
