DVR String Record - pashdown - 2025-03-31

Something I miss from the days when I ran MythTV is the ability to record based on a string search.  Plex DVR never figured it out, and I can't find this option in Jellyfin DVR.  Simply put, it would be nice to be able to save a string search like "Oscars" or "Grammys" or "Olympic" and have it catch everything broadcast or the event, year after year, without manually have to schedule it, year after year.

If you "record series" for a show, as long as there is consistency with your TV guide provider it should record each instance. You can even configure it to record re-runs if you want.

I do this for Sumo tournaments, which happen every other month. No need for me to record manually or re-setup "record series".

Do subsequent airings need the same name? Because I think this is where it would fail year after year with award shows having different years. Not to mention the multitude of Olympic sports titles.

It depends on your TV guide data. With XMLTV guides, the "title" field needs to be the same. For my IPTV/TV guide provider, the "sub-title" field is used for distinguishing episodes of a show and, AFAIK, many TV guide providers do the same. But yearly award shows could be different since you could argue they are not "episodes" of a show.
