Playback iPhone - Jedich - 2025-04-01 Hello. As i'm new to JF i started to test some Devices for Streaming from my JF Media. Like my Sony TV (Android), NvidiaShield TV (Android), Samsung Fold4 (Android oc).. all these Devices works. My goal is to play the media without any transcoding. At Usersettings -> Media Playback i deactivate - Allow audio playback that requires transcoding - Allow video playback that requires transcoding - Allow video playback using conversion without re-encoding - Force transcoding of external media sources (e.g., LiveTV) With these Settings i can play my media on my Android Devices (of course there are some settings to do regarding transcoding) without transcoding. But on my iPhone here's the Problem: When i start a Movie it seems to start. Even Jellystat says its playing directly (no transcoding), but i have a blackscreen on the iPhone and the status bar doesn't count. its stays at 00:00. I select the beta player in the settings of the iphone. the normal player wount play anything bc of transcode. Maybe someone can handle that in the next update. RE: Playback iPhone - theguymadmax - 2025-04-01 Playback may fail if you disable transcoding. Transcoding isn’t just a random feature—it’s used to resolve compatibility issues that could prevent playback. Different players have varying compatibility, so I recommend trying one of the various iOS players, like Jelly Mobile, Swiftfin, or Streamyfin, to see if you get better results. Disabling transcoding will likely cause playback issues on some devices, and there’s not much a developer can do about it. That’s why transcoding is enabled in the first place. RE: Playback iPhone - TheDreadPirate - 2025-04-01 Can you share your Jellyfin logs via privatebin.net? And can you share the media info for the problem file? Do you have issues playing particular files on your iPhone? Or all files? I see this different, and i'll tell you why. See, i've been using Plex for a long time and all of my devices can play the media directly without transcoding or having any issues. Even 4K Media with HDR or DV (with any Profile) and DTS Master Audio (no matter how many channels) i can play perfectly. The Media i use are all in a MKV Container, having h.264 Video and AC3/AAC Audio Codec, which can play at all my Devices directly without need to be transcode first. So why should I put unnecessary strain on the CPU and cause it to heat up and consume more power? So why this cant be possible with JellyFin at my iPhone? Maybe bc the Player is still in Beta Mode and still under construction? Thats okay, and i can wait. As i said, my Android Devices can play all my Files Directly. Would be nice if the iPhones can do that too. RE: Playback iPhone - Jedich - 2025-04-01 (2025-04-01, 01:31 PM)TheDreadPirate Wrote: Can you share your Jellyfin logs via privatebin.net? Media is a MKV Container. H.264 Codec + AC3 or AAC Audio Codec + (sometimes) SRT Subtitles. Thats it. As i mentioned before, with Plex i can play any Media on my iPhone without transcoding. Its all Files, bc there are not big Differences between them. Its always a MKV with H.264, AC3/AAC and SRT Subs. |
