Some files don't play on TV - transcoding ? - JonDoe - 2025-04-18
Hi everyone.
I had jellyfin on openmediavault/compose on an acer N4630g with I3 4160t and that does not have any video hw capability.
Since some files would just not play at all on a TCL google TV, i thought it may be some incapability on the tv's side to decode the format.
So i installed everything on an i3 7100 which has integrated hd630 that can do hw decode/encode (i've used that on a desktop so i know it works).
But the problem persists, even with intel qsv selected as hw encode, the same files cannot be played with the same error.
I looked at the logs and it basically says : FFmpeg exited with code 187.
Do you guys have any idea what can i do to disgnose and hopefully fix this?
The same files can be played on a pc with no issues whatsoever.

Hello, Sorry no solution here. I have same issues since like day or two as you. I have Jelly in Debian LXC container on Proxmox. And i am using using Nvidia Quadro P600 as encoder.

While the 7100 has way more decoding and encoding options compared to the 4160T, it doesn't support everything. If you've checked options that the 7100 doesn't support, that could lead to a code 187.
Can you share the ffmpeg log via privatebin.net so we can figure out what it is hung up on?
@lipitcho - make sure you've installed all of Nvidia's decoders and encoders.
Jellyfin-ffmpeg bundles all of Intel and AMDs decoders and encoder packages since the licenses on their drivers are FOSS friendly. But Nvidia's are not and require that you install them separately.

I just checked hw encode and selected intel qsv, nothing else.
I just want to be able to encode in the dumbest h264 which everything else by now should be able to decode.

That is the main jellyfin log, not the ffmpeg log. But it does tell me you are also using docker.
Can you share how you've configured the jellyfin container?
