Public Accessible Server? - James Thomas - 2023-09-29

Hello!

Probably fed up with these questions! If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Smiling-face

I have installed Jellyfin using Container Manager, selecting Web Station (Portal type: Name-based, Hostname: watch), and I now have Jellyfin running on the local network. I'm looking to make the installation publicly accessible.

I need the solution to be easily accessible due to having elderly family members we want to be able to access, who can only manage to turn the TV on. How can I do this?

To make this even more of a pain, I can't seem to figure out how even to get a static public IP - I'm new to the whole NAS thing. - Is there a simple solution for this?

The general best practice would be to set up a reverse proxy and proxy jellyfin to something like jellyfin.yourdomain.com. The underlying details of this vary greatly from system configuration to system configuration. We do have documentation on the networking, including several reverse proxies, here: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/networking/

Caddy has a reputation as being one of the easiest solutions to use. So take a look at that. I can't speak to its setup or compatibility on your specific configuration though.

There is also a troubleshooting channel on our matrix/discord if you need real time help as you go through the process.
