Jellyfin not transcoding Audio - XiLENCE - 2025-05-02
I am running Jellyfin on Docker with iGPU Passthrough and transcoding enabled.
I have an older 5.1 Sound system connected to my TV via Optical cable. Since it is optical only 5.1 AC3 and DTS as well as normal 2.1 Stereo is supported.
As a playback device I use an Nvidia Shield Pro (2019). When I now play a 7.1 Dolby Atmos movie, the Dashboard shows the playback as "direct play" and that everything is compatible. On Plex the behavior is that only DTS and AC3 are passed through and the rest transcodes.
How can I achieve this with Jellyfin? Or is looking at the Playback Info for my user on the Dashboard not the correct place to see if audio is being transcodes correctly?

No, the developer has not implemented any features like that on the current Jellyfin for Android TV. You would need to downmix to stereo, which is not an ideal solutions. You can view this unmerged PR for more details: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-androidtv/pull/3936
