Newbie Jelly Fin install - Chattrat - 2025-05-10 I am interested in setting up a media server. I have a PC running Linux Mint. It has a older ASRock motherboard Q1900-ITX. It has a Intel Quad-Core processor (2 Ghz), with Intel 7th generation (Gen 7) graphics. My LAN connection is hardwired 100 MB/s cabling to a 2.5 Gigabit switch connected to a ASUS router. This cabling from the Router/switch to this PC is next room away. Man feed to router is 1 Gigabit. My main PC (in another room) on this network is running Windows 11. If this is a good machine for the purpose I am envisioning and would it be a good thing to add a more high performance graphics card (PCI Express 2.0)? While I am somewhat technical, I am limited on some more detailed issues. any input much appreciated. Chattrat RE: Newbie Jelly Fin install - Generator - 2025-05-10 If you're not transcoding that setup can probably work, mainly for 1080p h264/h265 videos. Adding a PCIe 2.0 GPU won't be a much improvement if the CPU or RAM could be a bottleneck. RE: Newbie Jelly Fin install - alan - 2025-05-12 I'd invest in an SSD for the media library or add some RAM. So long as your video sizes aren't too big it will work though the machine is petty minimal - though I've run JF on worse hardware and it worked fine. |
