Transcoding won't activate - Gmjh - 2025-05-26
Hi. I'm trying to move from Emby to Jellyfin because I like the idea of hardware acceleration as part of the core package rather than having to pay extra on Emby premiere. I thought I might struggle with configuring hardware acceleration, but I have a much more basic problem than that. Jellyfin won't do any transcoding at all. When accessing my server remotely , even if I manually set the streaming limit to 1mb, every time I check the info on what's playing it says 'direct play'. It does this even when I'm watching a stream which is a complete mess of stuttering and massive pixelation. I have everything ticked to allow transcoding on remote streaming (and I haven't tried to do hardware acceleration yet) but I just cannot get transcoding to kick in. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks very much.

Never mind, I was using swiftfin on Apple tv. It turns out that swiftfin can't do transcoding, which makes it pretty useless. As far as I know there's nothing else I can use on Apple TV for Jellyfin. (Other than infuse which won't play anything unless you get the paid version)
