Audiobook custom artwork not persisting when new scan initiated. - martyc1981 - 2025-06-08

I have this really annoying problem. I have custom artwork for all my audio book authors (150+). It's basically a picture of them and their names in the artwork. But, whenever I rescan the directory, it changes back to the artwork that Jellyfin deems appropriate. Which looks awful. The file structure I use is below:

Audio Books (!)
        ¦--------------> Thriller (!)
               ¦------------------> Robert Ludlum (!)
                          ¦-----------------> The Bourne Supremacy

                                     ¦--------------------> Chapter 1.mp3
                                     ¦--------------------> Chapter 2.mp3

        ¦--------------> Science Fiction (!)
               ¦------------------> Phillip K Dick (!)
                          ¦------------------> Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?
                                     ¦--------------------> Chapter 1.mp3
                                     ¦--------------------> Chapter 2.mp3

        ¦--------------> Fantasy (!)
               ¦------------------> J. R. R Tolkien (!)
                          ¦------------------> The Lord Of The Rings
                                     ¦--------------------> Chapter 1.mp3
                                     ¦--------------------> Chapter 2.mp3

I don't mind the actual book art on the individual books. But the authors and the genre need to stay as my custom artwork. But whenever I scan the directory it changes everything back. Then I literally have to spend half an hour changing all the artwork to the custom artwork again. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? When I use custom artwork in any other directory, it persists.

So you have them in each folder name as?

Not sure what you're asking, but I have edited the above post to make clear exactly how I have the files and folders structured. I've put a (!) beside the folders with the custom art.

How is the artwork stored? Is it a local file in the folder? If so, what are you naming it?

Or are you changing the artwork through the webUI.

I change the artwork through the WebUI, but I have checked the box in the library config to store all the metadata files within the folders of the media.

Try placing the artwork directly in the folder and naming it folder.jpg (or whatever format extension you are using).

Also, in the metadata for your media, there is an option to "Lock this item to prevent future metadata change".  I've never had to use that option, as I use local images, and Jellyfin has never overwritten it.
