RC releases - mtoss - 2025-06-15 Just wondering why Jellyfin RC1 was not announced? It would be very helpful if we all get a notifications RC1 has been released. This way we all know and can contribute with testing. I found it by accessing Github and checking activity. I also would recommend that if certain number of issues was reported in RC1 that we build RC2 until we are ready for a final release. RE: RC releases - crobibero - 2025-06-15 It was announced in the Announcements chat. rc2 will be coming in the near future. RE: RC releases - paulc - 2025-06-15 For what it is worth, I subscribe to important notifications on GitHub projects that are important to me and got a message right away when they released it. That might be a route to go. It really easy to do. Just watch the projects you are interested in. Notifications from the projects comes directly to email. I'd be lost without my GitHub notifications. I couldn't imagine having to go and poke around occasionally everything I am interested in, contribute to, use, etc to find changes. RE: RC releases - mtoss - 2025-06-16 In order to be consistent it should have been announced in "Project Announcements" forum. That is its purpose. Unstable/RC releases haven't really been announced there previously, so I'm not sure that's true. One of the issues with announcing RC releases there is people don't read release notes. This is a release with huge changes that cannot be undone, so the general public might seriously harm their install if they don't read through the notes. RE: RC releases - mtoss - 2025-06-16 If you want to have many end users participate it maybe a good idea. I follow few forums for Open Source projects and it does get announced and helps find more bugs before final release. RE: RC releases - bitmap - 2025-06-16 Not disagreeing with the premise, just the assumption. RE: RC releases - mtoss - 2025-06-18 So you don't want to announce RC release because people do not read release notes and its too many changes to undone. That is a big misconception. Why do you have RC than? Ok, so I will forget it and not test it. What will happen if you you have a final release full of bugs? I am an old school IT and in my 40 years this is the first one. Good luck to you. People are testing. You're welcome to test if you'd like. Your attitude is unwelcome and confrontational. |
