Random videos won't scan into library - YarisVerso - 2025-06-21 Hi, I've been using Jellyfin for about a year, and have been generally puzzled about this issue for most of the time using it. Essentially random videos will just not scan in. I can re-scan the library, re-create the library, move files to a new drive or even network location, wipe the video's metadata, heck even transcode the video to a new file/format and it simply will not appear. Everything else, but the video in question. But for some reason it is always videos that originated from YouTube. Elsewhere? Fine. But about 1/10 YouTube videos no matter what will refuse to appear in Jellyfin. Which is a shame as we like to watch trailers and such together before playing new game releases etc. Is there some sort of filtering or tagging I'm unaware of that could be responsible? I'm at a complete loss here. Considering a fresh server installation at this point. It would be a bit of a hassle, but functionality comes first. I wouldn't know what logs to provide for this specific issue, but pointers would be very much welcome. Sorry if I've missed some specific FAQ thing related to the issue at hand. I've been searching for a solution for a long time, and this is my reason to finally make an account and post. RE: Random videos won't scan into library - theguymadmax - 2025-06-21 What type of library are you adding it to? What's your folder structure and naming scheme for the files and folders? RE: Random videos won't scan into library - YarisVerso - 2025-06-21 It was a loose folder named "Other" of about 200 assorted videos from YouTube, my camera, or random websites. "Home Videos and Photos" type, for lack of need for metadata plugins. I suppose those could be disabled, but I didn't see a more relevant content category. I don't see any info on naming or folder schemes for that content type in the docs. The mixed movies and shows type is supposedly deprecated. Many simply do not show up. I moved 44 to a separate new library, 3 do not show. Of the remaining 159 videos, only 152 show up. It's always YouTube videos causing this issue. Everything else has been a-ok. I have tried renaming "hidden" videos. Videos with the same naming scheme will show up. Other videos from the same channel, day, etc. will show up. Re-encoding videos with handbrake, and removing or altering their metadata doesn't appear to achieve anything. If they don't show, they don't show. Sometimes I will find an identical copy of said video from another channel, with the exact same name and it will mysteriously appear in the library. Sometimes not. Today I tried the "same" video in both mp4 and webm formats from three different sources with several different naming schemes to no avail. Every copy of the downloaded video had no playback issues whatsoever in VLC. What media type would you suggest for assorted videos in JF? Surely it is not all that uncommon to use it for things other than TV/Movies. I don't believe my drives are the issue, as I have moved the folder from network storage, across three drives on my main computer already. If it helps I could create a new library for a random problem file, and provide logs, if there are logs for scanning libraries. I wouldn't know where to look, however. If you like, I could test the files on another installation of JF server, even on a fresh OS installation. I hope it doesn't come to that. Presently I have two copies of this free game trailer, in two separate home video libraries, with zero search results for their filename in Jellyfin. Sorry I've edited this message a lot so it may contain some repetition. I am very confused, but eager to learn. Movies is a surefire one that should pick up every loose file. You have to remember you cannot mix your organization styles, though. All loose or all with a folder containing each separate media file. |
