Jellyfin server from WiFi to Ethernet - Bladefin - 2025-06-26 Hello, I'm in the process of updating my system moving away from my desktop Jellyfin server to using my laptop as the server, my laptop hasn't got a ethernet socket so I will eventually need to get a usb to ethernet, but for now I was going to set it up with WiFi when I eventually get the usb to ethernet will I encounter any problems as I'm guessing it will be assigned a different IP address. RE: Jellyfin server from WiFi to Ethernet - 34626 - 2025-06-27 You connct the laptop to the Wi-Fi SSID. As you know, data and bandwidth may be more limited. What Wi-Fi card is in your laptop and what Wi-Fi router do you have? RE: Jellyfin server from WiFi to Ethernet - Bladefin - 2025-06-27 Sorry that wasn't what I was asking,When I eventually go wired will this cause connection problems on the server side as originally it would of been set up with a WiFi connection,I was thinking Jellyfin would of assigned a WiFi IP address. Hopefully you understand what I'm trying to ask? RE: Jellyfin server from WiFi to Ethernet - 34626 - 2025-06-27 You must log in to your router, assign a local IP to the computer. When you get the USB to ethernet adapter, you edit the mac address from the Wi-Fi card to the USB to ethernet adapter, and maby, you will need to restart the router. Or set a static IP on the laptop OS. My ISP router doesn't have a proper settings for static to devices, i need to set the static IP on each device instead RE: Jellyfin server from WiFi to Ethernet - Bladefin - 2025-06-28 Thanks @34626 Glad you understood what I was asking. @Generator My router doesn't have a proper static IP setting, but it does automatically enable the option to use the same IP address. |
