Access JF without local network/router, over mobile internet/ISP - ldexterldesign - 2025-06-29

👋 all,

Hope you're OK!

I don't have home internet/ISP so relying on mobile internet / ISP data (ie iPhone/iOS)

I run my JF in Docker on macOS

Historically - with any device on my local network - I just accessed JF using local IPs but now I can't do this because no local network/router 😩

Short of expediting my home internet install, is there a workaround here so I can access JF on macOS from iOS again?

Aside, I will research an Apple solution but I expect the answer here is to [host] JF, right?

🤞👋

I would check out Tailscale. It's a mesh VPN. Just install it on your server and your phone, then both will be able to connect.

You do have the option of buying a router from your local tech store. You don't need an actual internet connection to run your own local network at home.
You may even decide to use your self-bought router instead of the ISP-provided one if they allow for that when the time comes.
