Managing conference stream recordings in JF - hheimbuerger - 2025-06-30 Can you give me some advice on how to bring recordings from a conference stream into Jellyfin? I have two days with 5-10 videos each, that I would like to make accessible through Jellyfin. I would like them to show up in order, because some of them are like "reception" or "matinee", i.e. the days have some kind of structure. It wouldn't feel right to have them show up alphabetically. So I guess I'll need to create some kind of "series" (like a TV series) for them? Do I create one for all, or one per day? What kind of library will I need? How do I manage the metadata (obviously, these videos are not in any kind of media database!)? How do I name the files, or do I just change the titles in JF? What level of detail should that contain? If I enter the meta data in JF, can I batch this somehow, or do I need to type all the same data on each video individually? How would I even go about creating a series? Do I create one series for the conferences, containing two sub-series for each of the days? Or should I map the days as "seasons"? Preferably, I would like to have them grouped with other videos, I already have a "documentaries" library, that would kinda fit. (I'm trying not to have too many libraries.) But can you combine individual videos with series of videos in one library? I guess I would be fine with creating a new "conferences" library. Has anyone archived something like this before in JF and do you have any advice how to best manage that? RE: Managing conference stream recordings in JF - Efficient_Good_5784 - 2025-06-30 Personally, I would use the Show library type and do all the metadata stuff by hand. When you add it as a show, add them as you normally would with a "season folder" too named however you want. Since this is custom, Jellyfin will add them displayed a bit randomly due to the nature of what you're doing. Just edit the season folder's metadata using the GUI. Likewise, give each file your desired season and episode number to sort them to your liking. At the end of this, just lock the metadata for the "show" level. Locking metadata is recursive, so it will lock all things under the item you locked. Locking metadata means that anything you filled in will not be changed (locked). Note that locking metadata doesn't lock unfilled sections. So if you were to ever have metadata providers enabled and Jellyfin somehow matches your videos to some random show/movie, Jellyfin will attempt to fill in the remaining empty metadata fields. That's how I would handle this, but I believe others would recommend you to use the home video library type. Up to you on how you want to proceed. RE: Managing conference stream recordings in JF - hheimbuerger - 2025-07-07 Thank you for your advice, and sorry for my late response! I've also decided to attempt setting this up as a series. Thanks for your hints with the metadata locking, I wouldn't have considered that! I'm still struggling though, does anybody have any advice (or documentation links!) to: 1. What types of images (Primary, Clearart, Backdrop, Banner, etc.) should I create (so where will they appear, respectively) and what resolution should they have? 2. I've dropped the videos into two subfolders, Day1 and Day2. Then I went through the videos of Day1 in JF, and assigned each one to season "1". Now under seasons, I see three seasons: Day1, Day1 and Day2. One of the Day1 seasons has the fields "Path", "Title", "Original title", "Sort title", "Date added" and "Season number" (set to "1"). The other has the fields "Title", "Original title", "Sort title", "Date added" and "Season number" (set to "1"). What are these two, and how do I get rid of one of them? |
