Video/Audio freezes when transcoding - yeleo - 2025-07-21
Hello!
I have configured Jellyfin on Unraid, this are the spec:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5600U
RAM: 32 GB
HDD: Western Digital Red 2TB x3
GPU: ARC 380
Client: TV LG C1 running Jellyfin app
The problem is that both video and audio freezes for two or three seconds, then resumes playback and happens again. It always happens when transcoding the file.
I don't see any error in the ffpmeg log.
On the Unraid system I have two graphics cards, the GPU integrated in the CPU and an ARC 380 GPU. I have tested that both GPUs do transcoding, but video and audio freezes.
I have tried both a WIFI and a wired connection.
Playing the same files in Jellyfin on my PC from a Firefox browser video and audio play perfectly.

I can almost guarantee it's not a Jellyfin and/or transcoding issue. This is a known problem with webOS and -- as I own an LG C1 as well -- I can tell you that other clients are much more capable at the moment. I know that there's a fix coming to help a possible cause of this issue (hls chunk size I think? Let me look for the PR) but the other problem, network saturation, is inherent to the crap network hardware on the unit (10/100 max). So if you run into high-bandwidth content causing issues, it could be either of these issues. The solution for the latter is to purchase a USB gigabit ethernet adapter or use WiFi.
