Custom TV Tuner via SDR - isilb - 2025-07-22
Has anyone imported a custom TV tuner into the Live Broadcast section of Jellyfin? Furthermore, has anyone done this with a software-defined radio (SDR)? Any other special signal processing hardware needed? I am hoping to be able to watch networks like TSN or perhaps other local stations without my cable subscription. Any tips or advice appreciated! Thanks!

I have a Hauppage dual USB tuner connected to an OTA antenna which runs through TVHeadEnd and into Jellyfin. Works fine, though I haven't messed with recordings yet. Most of what's needed is a valid M3U for content and XML for schedule/info but I don't think it's made to work with anything other than IPTV or a setup like what I have. In other words, radio likely will not work.

Thanks! This is a very helpful answer! How do TVHeadEnd and Jellyfin communicate? Are you running a separate VM with TVHeadEnd or can you just install TVHeadEnd into Jellyfin by SSH?
