Jellyfin & Intel Deep Link - JPKribs - 2023-10-07

Looking online, I saw a document from Intel about using Intel 'Deep Link' and Handbrake. Super high level, this uses both an Intel GPU and Intel CPU's iGPU for QSV actions. I believe Handbrake uses FFMPEG? I was curious if this feature is in FFMPEG and therefore was something Jellyfin benefited from or is it something that Handbrake added custom on their end?

I have been using Arc GPU with an AMD CPU but I had a lower-end i3 11100 in my house as well. Would I get benefit from pairing an Intel CPU with an Arc GPU due to Intel Deep Link?

The document for reference: https://www.intel.com.tw/content/dam/www/central-libraries/us/en/documents/2022-07/intel-dl-handbrake-whitepaper-final-07152022.pdf

It's more of a marketing document than technical so I wasn't sure if this was FFMPEG related or Handbrake specific.

I mean it sounds like thus far it's encoding-only, Windows-only, and Handbrake-only from what I can find. Even this relatively recent issue opened asking about Linux implementation of the hyper encode feature mentioned in the white paper you linked has a dev answer saying there are no plans to implement on Linux.

Gotcha! That’s kind of what I was seeing as well. Their white papers *say* Linux so I wasn’t sure if that was specifically through Handbrake or FFMPEG.

That being said, thanks for the reply! I will not be reassembling computers to match Intel-Intel!

I mean I'll keep an eye out because this is attractive with my i7-13700k + A380 but it doesn't seem like it's coming my way any time soon....
