Wrong metadata was associated with a new series. - mylinuxguy - 2025-08-14 So how does Jellyfin guess / decide what metadata to pick when it sees a show added to the filesystem for the first time? I added 6 episodes of Butterfly to my system and instead of getting the metadata from the 2025 Butterfly, it chose the metadata from the the 2019 Butterfly series that only had 3 episodes. The metadata for the lastest 2025 Butterfly existed on IMDB and the TVDB database. I ended up erasing the shows from Jellyfin using the Delete option and the re-creating the Butterfly directory with a manually created tvshow.nfo file with the correct imdb and tvdb ids. It's all good now, but why did it pick the older show with less episodes instead of the newest one with the correct number of episodes? RE: Wrong metadata was associated with a new series. - theguymadmax - 2025-08-14 Each metadata provider is different. I would suggest you add the year to the series name to prevent misidentification as the documentation suggests: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/shows#organization Ex: Butterfly (2025)\ --Season 01\ ----S01E01.mkv RE: Wrong metadata was associated with a new series. - akirby83 - 2025-08-14 Yeah I have definitely found that if I don't add the year to my show or movie folder name it's a crap shoot whether it gets the right metadata from TMDB. |
