LG C4 TV Jellyfin App Lagging on New Anime with ASS Subtitles - Smaub - 2025-08-16
I’m running into an issue with my LG C4 TV using the Jellyfin Smart TV app. My server is an Ugreen NAS, and most media plays fine.
However, I notice that new anime episodes lag or stutter, even though the video is Direct Play and hardware decoding is enabled.
Some details:
• Video: H.264, 1080p, 8-bit, ~8 Mbps
• Audio: AAC
• Subtitles: ASS/SSA (Advanced Sub Station Alpha)
• Only happens on the Smart TV app, not on PC or other devices
• Doesn’t happen with movies or older shows
It seems like the lag is related to the ASS subtitles, which the LG TV struggles to render.
Has anyone else experienced this with LG TVs or the Jellyfin Smart TV app? Are there any workarounds to get smooth playback with ASS subtitles without having to re-encode every episode?
