Film renamed to something totally different? - ErictheBusy - 2025-08-22
When installing Jellyfin I added a small handful films to test how it performs when scanning the filenames.
It did well for most but a fairly recent film which I am not sure if I can name, DM4 comes out as Green Dragon even
though GD is nowhere in the filename or metadata?
I had to restart my Synology due to a failing UPS and it's reset the filename again back to GD?
What am I doing wrong or missing? Thanks.

Jellyfin performs best when movie folders contain additional identifiers like:

My Great Movie (2025) [tmdbid-12345]It's trying to identify the movie and failing, so picking its next best guess. You can help resolve this by using the tmdbid or imdbid in the folder name OR by deleting all of the metadata for this item and entering the TMDB or IMDB ID in the metadata edit box on the movie page. You can also use "Identify", just clear out everything first and then use one of the aforementioned IDs to identify the media.

That's the issue the file is correctly named, I have used identify and changed the name/images to the
correct movie but it keeps changing it back.
Scanned the file metadata with mp3tag, various mkv tools and there is no extra data that I can see
to cause the change.
The incorrect movie title is named nothing like what it chooses. D.... Me 4 = The Green Dragon?
I don't put each film in it's own folder, I have a 0-9 folder and individual A-Z folders.
With your code box info, are you saying that should be the filename? Or should I have each movie
in it's own folder for best results?

For the best results, you get two options. First is a folder full of files. That's terrifying to me, but to each their own. The other option is Movies > My Great Movie (2025) [tmdbid-12345] > My Great Movie (2025).mkv. Movies being the root folder, one folder for each movie with TMDb ID in the folder name. That ID is not necessary in the file name.

Even after having a correct file naming convention in place jellyfin may mislabel media from time to time. The "Identify" fix bitmap mentioned is the way to go. But fix any file naming issues first, otherwise you will come to hate the Identify button because you will be using it way too often.
