How to enable HDR playback - rndmusr5x1b - 2025-09-01
Hello, new user here and I'm looking for some advice on HDR playback.
MY SETUP: I'm hosting Jellyfin Media server on Unraid and all my clients are Windows PCs.
On the Windows PCs I'm using Jellyfin Media Player connected to the Unraid server.
MY PROBLEM: Everything seems to work great except for HDR playback. HDR playback works fine on Plex and MPC-HC - so it's not my media or clients. I'm assuming I haven't enabled or setup HDR in Jellyfin.
MY QUESTION: Can someone tell me the best way to enable HDR playback in the Jellyfin Media Player?
I've seen some info on using MPV Shim and a few other things. But I can't find a straightforward answer.
What is the recommended way to enable HDR playback?

So I used embyToLocalPlayer instead of Shim method.
And you need to enable HDR from your windows setting

Thanks for replying. I have enabled HDR in my Windows settings. The Windows clients have no issues with HDR playback on Plex and MPC-HC.
I guess what I'll need to do is have Jellyfin Media Player use MPV Shim for playback to get HDR working? This is what I'm not clear on. Does anyone know how to set that up?

You will need to disable transcoding, and tone mapping for HDR to work properly, and I linked you the post where I explained how to play HDR/DV content on pc in my last reply.
