Newbie to starting media server - Raiven Warren - 2025-09-03 Hello, I am a complete novice to home servers. I have a 2018 mac mini with a Intel Core i3 quad core, 32gb ddr4 memory, and 128gb storage. I have downloaded Jellyfin, Tailscale and Docker onto my computer, and plan on getting a 1tb external ssd to store my media. I just want to understand what would be the next steps for me to take in order to get my media set up along with tailscale + docker because i have been searching for content of people setting up jellyfin on older mac minis but its been a bit hard to find. Also I have already turned on file sharing through smb and remote access. Is there anything I'm missing? RE: Newbie to starting media server - schnappi - 2025-09-14 You don't need file sharing if you install Jellyfin on the same machine as your storage. You can also install Linux on an old Mac if you want an up to date operating system. Done this on an old MacBook Pro before and it worked great. |
