Year as season number / 4-digit season - Renoir - 2025-09-04

Is there a character length limitation to season numbers? Jellyfin does not seem to like seasons numbered according to calendar years. For example, files with a pattern like:

My Big Show - s2025e01 - Pilot
My Big Show S2025E01 Pilot

will end up displayed in the library under a 3-digit season: Season 233 in the case of s2025 *.

It doesn't seem to matter if the files are in a folder named Season 2025 or directly under the show folder: either way, things work pretty well, except for the season number that gets displayed.

The metadata in the video container files is correct (Season: 2025) but Jellyfin doesn't seem to use that embedded data. It doesn't matter whether the library is set to download season and episode metadata from TMDB, TVDB, or none at all. The .nfo saved by Jellyfin during metadata scan shows the erroneous season number (233).

* Interestingly, the offset between the correct season number (year) and the value displayed in Jellyfin is always 1792 (which, oddly, is the Gregorian calendar year that corresponds to Year 1 of the short-lived French Republican calendar, implemented after the Revolution).

Is there a real series that does this? Please provide specific examples.

You can see this type of season numbering used on TVDB/TMDB, for example:

The Sky at Night  (TVDB) (TMDB)
Explorer (TVDB)
American Pickers (TVDB)
Formula 1 (TVDB)

I tried two of the series, one using the TMDB and the other using the TVDB metadata provider. They both were able to identify correctly.

When using the TMDB, they often have a season name that is different from the actual season number.

So in this example, "Season 2025" is season 69

For TVDB, there was no other listed season, so the year-season number was used: https://thetvdb.com/series/formula-1#seasons
Formula 1 (1950)\
-Season 2025\
