DTS-X/DTS-HD Stuttering - Android TV - whipflash191 - 2025-09-15

Hi All,

I've come across an odd issue trying to stream a movie with 7.1 DTS-X/DTS-HD MA. When I enable the track the video starts to the stutter and the audio only comes through in 1/2 second bursts at best. Switching to 5.1 DTS solves the issue. According to the spec sheet my TV is capable of DTS-X/DTS-HD MA as is my Receiver. Jellyfin is set to passthrough the audio as is my TV and when the audio does play my receiver picks it up as DTS-X. I've tried running it through Kodi as an external player but run into an issue with smooth video and no audio. There is no transcoding happening as it is direct playing the file. Using the in-app setting to decode with ffmpeg works fine but doesnt send it through as DTS-X which is expected.

Jellyfin 10.10.7 running on Windows

High-resolution DTS formats has issues on the Android TV client. As a workaround, you can enable the Prefer ffmpeg option in the developer settings of the Android TV app.

FFMPEG isn't really a workaround though is it? I'm just getting a transcoded audio stream and not the DTS-X sent through to my receiver. Kinda negates the point of having it in the first place. I was also under the impression Kodi didn't use the same player and shouldn't have an issue with the audio format either.
