NFS / Wake On Lan setup - Josef Aarskov - 2025-09-30

I'm curious if anyone has a setup like this maybe, and if so, how does it work?

My movie collection resides on a semi-large Synology NAS, which I'd like to have shut down most of the time and only wake up when watching movies.
I used to use Kodi, but would like the transcoding features of Jellyfin for streaming outside my home, so now I try using Jellyfin insteadĀ (which is running in TrueNas Scale on an all-nvme BeeLink Mini ME)

So, I'm looking for an easy way to wake up and mount my Synology NFS media folder on demand, so my Jellyfin server can access media, transcode, stream and so on, and the Synology can just shutdown when idle for some time.
But I'm very unsure how to set it up in a way, which would make it easy to do, regardless of whether I'm home or somewhere else. I got Tailscale on most stuff as well.

Right now, I have Jellyfin running as an app in TrueNas, but I'm wondering if running it in something like Dockge or similar could provide me with some extra possibilities in that regard ... I'm thinking maybe some WOL packet, app or script could run in the TrueNas to wake up the Synology, either separately or in conjunction with Jellyfin itself?

I'm not very well versed in programming or CLI in general, but willing to learn ;-)
Here's hoping someone has a cool setup or a cool idea!

Thanx in advanceĀ  Upside-down-face
